How to check a golf scorecard before saving
Check hole identities, strokes and completion before checking totals. A total can look plausible even when two holes have been swapped.

Start with the round identity
Confirm the course layout, tees, date and intended nine or eighteen holes. At a multi-layout facility, the facility name alone does not identify the scorecard. For a back-nine round, holes 10–18 should remain those holes throughout the review. Renumbering them in your notes can make a later comparison harder, especially when the tee rows or pars differ.
Read the holes before the total
Compare each golfer’s strokes with their own recollection or backup card. A sequence of 4, 5, 3, 4, 6, 4, 5, 3, 5 adds to 39. Swapping the 6 and a 4 keeps that total unchanged while changing the hole results and any skins calculation. Ask “which hole?” before changing a number just to make the total match.
Keep blanks and penalties explicit
A blank means the score needs attention. Do not enter zero or par as a placeholder and then treat the card as complete. Include penalties in strokes taken, and remember that putts are already part of the stroke total. For a formal competition, use the organizer’s rules for incomplete play, certification and returning the scorecard; a casual app save is not a substitute for that process.
Handle different finishing times
In a casual shared round, golfers may reach the last hole or save at different times. Check each person’s own completed card rather than assuming a group screen proves that everybody has finished. If a phone was offline, verify the saved result after reconnecting. Keep the original notes until the intended card is visible in history and the totals are correct.
Leave a useful correction trail
When a score needs correction, record the golfer, hole, old value, corrected value and who confirmed it. For example: “Sam, hole 7, 6 to 5, confirmed with Sam after the round.” That gives an organizer something concrete to verify. Avoid repeatedly creating replacement rounds to fix one hole; use the product’s supported correction path and contact support if the saved state is unclear.
